Academy Kickers:  for our youngest players at U5/U6 (born in 2014 and 2015). Our Academy Kickers will get off to a great start with training 2x a week in Shepherdstown and 8 small sided games against our sister program over in Hagerstown. Practices are comprised of fun training games and basic skill foundation. Cost for the entire year (August to June) is $110 and $65 for Spring only.

Academy Juniors:  for U7 and U8 players (born in 2012 and 2013). Practices are also 2x a week  in Shepherdstown. Training will be more formal then the Lil' Kickers as we look to introduce team concepts and deeper skills appropriate for the age group. Cost for the entire year (August to June) is $140 and $80 for Spring only.

Academy Pro:  comprised of boys and girls U9 and U10 (born in 2010 and 2011). Our A.P. team(s) will compete in either the Frederick Hexaleague or WCCL 7 a side, along with training twice a week locally in Shepherdstown with licensed, professional coaches. Playing in a small sided environment, players touch the ball more often and become more skillful. In addition to the weekly game and training, the Academy Pro team will coordinate participation in a winter indoor league, club wide events, and possibly a tournament or two! The fee for the entire year (August to June) is $160. Academy Pro players graduate from A.P. at U10 and go on to form the nucleus of their gender specific full travel teams.

About our Academy programs:
All of our Academy options are coached by licensed, professional coaches with years of soccer playing and training experience.  Practice session activities and games are designed and tailored to follow the best practices and guidelines set forth by US Soccer and US Youth Soccer. These guidelines outline a youth soccer development program encouraging each player to become more comfortable, confident and creative with their foot skills, while increasing their enjoyment of soccer. Practice session activities are intended to be fun, challenging and create an environment simulating in-game situations, keeping players moving and engaged. Players are allowed to participate at a level that is commensurate with each player’s developmental level and not solely based on age groups. The skills worked on each week are encouraged and emphasized in games and matches, to allow players to practice their skills in a game environment and gain confidence on the ball. The Academy Director oversees all aspects of the Academy Program, and works with the Club Director of Coaching to develop and implement appropriate curricular goals for all players and coaches. Players only need to register with the club to join the Academy program.

Training Year: In the EPIC Developmental Academy Program the training year begins in August (fall season) and ends the following May (spring season). When there are available slots, players can registerat any time during the year and immediately join training. In the fall, training is from August through the end of October and training in the spring begins in March and goes through the end of May. The training costs are prorated for new players that join in the spring. Training sessions are held two days a week,  and are local to the Shepherdstown area.  Games are on Saturdays in the Frederick, MD vicinity or Hagerstown, MD vicinity based on age group.

Coaching philosophy: In the EPIC Developmental Academy we focus on individual skill development, confidence with ball skills and defending 1v1, and comfortability using either foot as appropriate. We also work on teaching the kids proper balance and coordination skills as well as introducing fitness concepts. All training is derived from the US Youth Soccer guidelines on coaching youth soccer and incorporates the USSF Best Practice methods (eng)(esp). The kids are encouraged to experiment with moves and various skills or techniques in games. We believe confidence will come from continuously working at a skill until they master it and not being afraid to try it in a game.

EPIC is committed to providing a Travel soccer program for those children and coaches looking to challenge themselves beyond the Recreational soccer level. Travel soccer is more competitive in nature, with teams offering competition and training for players who have the potential, drive and desire to compete at a higher level. The primary focus of the Travel Program is player development through quality coaching and high quality competition. Great emphasis is placed on teamwork and sportsmanship. During pre-announced tryout dates, players wishing to earn a position on a travel team participate in assessments to see about being placed on a team. Additionally, you may contact a Board Member or Coach at any time during the year to see if we may have any roster spots available for your age group. Travel soccer league games are scheduled primarily on Saturdays and Sundays. Home games will be played on local soccer fields and Away games will be played on fields typically within a one or two hour drive from the area. The schedule traditionally consists of 8-10 league games, half of which are played at our home fields. The Fall season begins in August and extends through mid November. The spring season begins in March and extends through June. Most teams choose to participate in Winter Leagues in the off-season, following a short break, as well as competitive tournaments throughout the year.
